Barbara Stevens Barnum, RN, PhD, FAAN

Mary S. Collins, PhD, RN; Mary S. Collins came to Binghamton University in 1976 with a variety of Public Health Nursing experiences. Her current areas of scholarship include identification of and meeting today's healthcare needs and preparing nursing students to meet these needs. Activities related to meeting current healthcare needs include the clarification of roles of Advanced Practice Nurses; offering managed care analyses; identifying criteria for a managed care program for Medicaid clients; and facilitating the implementation of a case management model. Additionally, she has been actively involved in preparing students to practice in tomorrow's healthcare environment by establishing pedagogy-curriculum to meet future teaching and learning needs and investigating the professional development of graduate students in nursing. Dr. Collins serves as a program Evaluator for National League for Nursing Accreditation. She is currently Dean and Associate Professor, Decker School of Nursing, Binghamton University, Binghamton, NY.

Sheila A. Ryan, PhD, RN, FAAN; Dr. Ryan served as Executive President of the National League for Nursing for a one year term ending June 1997, and is currently serving as its Chief Executive Officer on an interim basis. Since 1986, she has served as Program Director of the Commonwealth Fund Executive Nurse Fellowship Program and managed the dispersement of over six million dollars in awards. She also served on the Health Professionals Education commission for the 21st Century for the Pew Charitable Trust. As a member of the Institute of Medicine, she has served on various committees including the Primary Care Workforce Committee. In addition, Dr. Ryan presently chairs the Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellowship Selection Committee. She is currently serving on the National Security Council's Committee "Maintaining Privacy and Security in Health Care Applications of the National Information Infrastructure." A member of the American Academy of Nursing, Dr. Ryan is currently Dean and Professor at the School of Nursing and Director of Medical Center Nursing at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.
